MITCHELSTOWN ADVANCE TO THE QUARTER FINAS WITH BIG WIN OVER BALLYDESMOND

Cork IFC Rd 4 Replay
MITCHELSTOWN 2 19
BALLYDESMOND 1 10

Mitchelstown travelled back to Mourne Abbey last Saturday evening in high hopes of qualifying for the last 8 in this year’s IFC in their way stood Ballydesmond who they had previously drawn the week before, conditions were wet and windy but the pitch was in great condition for both teams. Ballydesmond as was last week started the stronger and opened the scoring on the 2nd minute with a pointed free Donncha o Connor their main marksmen but Mitchelstown replied with a free kick of their own on the 5th minute when Liam Keane pointed from 45 yards out Ballydesmond edged in front again on the 7th minute but Dave Dinnen tied it again after 10 minute a superb score by Ballydesmond had them in front again but back came Mitchelstown with Shane Beston point to tie the game after 15 min that was the last time Mitchelstown had to come from behind they started to get on top all over the field especially half back line of Magee Molloy Carroll and in midfield were Beston and Walsh started to take control a superb point by Cathal O Mahoney on the 16th minute started a run of scores points by Keane Beston Sheehan had Mitchelstown 4 ahead entering the last 10 not like last week where in the same position they conceded late scores approaching half- time they kicked on after an excellent save by Luke Hanna further points by Shane Cahill and Cathal O Mahoney had Mitchelstown 7 ahead entering the last few minutes of the half then 0n the29th min a turn over ball back on our own half was quickly moved all the way up the field and was finished to the net by corner forward Cathal O Mahoney a further point by Beston left Mitchelstown in a commanding position at half – time on the score 1 12 to 0 4.

While Mitchelstown were very happy at the break there was no room for complacency the rain started to lash down and the wind picked up,Ballydesmond resumed the 2nd half as you would think they came out and attacked Mitchelstown straight from the get go two quick points had the lead reduced to 9 then on the 45thmin a great point by Sean Walsh settled Mitchelstown in to the 2nd half Ballydesmond were trying very hard to breach the Mitchelstown rear-guard but with Maher Finn Herlihy were strong throughout then on the 53rd min a great individual effort by Donncha O Connor which eventually ended up in the Mitchelstown net reduced the gap to 7 this unsettled Town for a few minutes until Dylan price kicked a wonderful point followed by a Shane Cahill point to leave 9 between the teams entering the last 10 then on the 52min a great move involving Cahill and Flynn was eventually dispatched to the Ballydesmond net by Dylan Price this ended the game as a contest for the last 8 min of the game.

Mitchelstown's  back room team will be delighted with the win and again as in the previous games against Millstreet and Ballydesmond the panel came to the fore again with all replacements making a contribution to the advancement of the Team.

They now face Rockchapel in the Quarter Final next week this will be another step up for the boys as Rockchapel were last year’s finalists going down to Bandon by 3 points in the final.

We will travel back to Charleville in high hopes not fearing the opposition ,best of luck to the lads and all support welcome.
