Mitchelstown Take The Points in Close Encounter

Mitchelstown travelled to Cloghduv last week to play Gabriel Rangers in their Division 4 Intermediate League game.

It was Bitterly cold night with a strong wind blowing across the field. Mitchelstown played against the wind in the first half and started well but could not adjust to the difficult conditions then on the 5th minute on their first attack, a long ball was misread by the Mitchelstown full back and the ball was duly dispatched to the net by The Gabriel Rangers full forward.

They added points on the 12th and 15th min to increase their lead to 5 points, this was followed by another goal on the 18th min.

Mitchelstown had their first score on the 19th min , a Sean Walsh point & it was quickly followed by 2 points by Shane Beston on the 22nd and 23 rd min. A very good move by mitchelstown ended up with George Pendle finishing to the net Mitchelstown were finishing the half very strong & 2 more points by Shane Beston had Gabriel Rangers leading 2 O4 to 1 05 at half time.

MItchelstown now playing with a strong wind took the game straight away to the opposition but some wayward shooting was costly.

Gabriel Rangers opened the scoring on the 35th min but on the 37th min Sean o Sullivan picked up a ball on the 40 and went straight for goal beating 3 defenders and blasting a great shot to the back of the net. This inspirational score was followed by two quick points by Shane Beston to put mitchelstown 3 ahead entering the last quarter but back came the opposition and kicked 3 points in a row to leave the teams level with 5 min to go but Mitchelstown's best two performers Sean o Sullivan and Shane Beston came up trumps to kick two late points to give mitchelstown the win by the narrowest of Margins.
