Mitchelstown and Fermoy Ends in Thrilling Draw

Mitchelstown and Fermoy played out a very entertaining U21 North Cork Championship game last Saturday evening in Kilworth.

The conditions were perfect for good Football which both teams supplied for the large crowd that attended. Fermoy started the game the better with quick points on the 4th and nd 5th min followed by a Cathal O'Mahony point on the 8th min which settled Mitchelstown into the game.

A Dylan Price point on 10th min had the teams level , but was changed when our opponents got a point followed by a good goal which stretched Fermoy in to a 5 point lead by the 20 th min.

Sean Walsh reduced the gap with
a lovely point and the on the 25th min a great move from the half back line was finished to the Fermoy net by Cathal O Mahoney.

Within minutes Fermoy had wiped out the goal with a goal of their own to leave Fermoy leading at Half time 2 O5 to 1 06.

Mitchelstown started the stronger on the resumption and points by O Mahony and White had the teams level after 5 min. Fermoy regained the lead after adding. 3 points in quick succession but Mitchelstown responded well with a Dylan Price Goal on the 15 min which had teams level again but back came Fermoy and regained the lead with two kicked points with 8 min remaining .

Then on the 26 min a well worked move by the MItchelstown half forward line was finished to the net by Cillion Dollin to put Mitchelstown ahead.

Mitchelstown were on top now and had two great chances to finish the game off but squandered them both .

Deep in injury time the ref awarded a dubious fee to Fermoy which they converted to draw the game.

Looking back a draw was probably a fair result it now puts Mitchelstown into a must win the next game to progress scenario when they play Charleville next weekend.

The victors will face Kilshannig in the North Cork Final.
