MITCHELSTOWN GAA NOTES 27-April-2017
MITCHELSTOWN LOSE OUT IN THRILLING ECOUNTER
Mitchelstown 1 13
Kanturk 2 15
Mitchelstown lost out to Kanturk in round 1 of this year’s IFC Championship in Churchtown last Saturday night, it was a perfect night for football great surface and the weather was great and both teams did not disappoint the large crowed that was present. Kanturk were very quickly out of the blocks and into their stride points in the 2nd 5th and 13th min had them race into a quick lead and Mitchelstown seemed all at sea but a well taken point by Shane Cahill on the 15th min seemed to settle Town in to the game further points by Pa Magee and a great solo effort by S O Sullivan had the teams level you could not literally take your eyes of it for a second straight away Kanturk went up the field and kicked two very good points back came Mitchelstown straight away and points by James Sheehan and Sean Walsh had the teams level 5 points a piece after 20 min , but then a short kick out went a stray and duly ended up in the back of the Mitchelstown net this was followed by 2 further points by Kanturk to but them 5 clear in the space of a couple of min but Town did not buckle a superb individual strike by S Cahill to the the Kanturk net and points by the very lively D Price and J Sheehan had the teams level again both teams swapped points in the dying min of the half that left the score 1 09 a piece Big question by everybody at half time could this pace be kept up by both teams it was so fast and frantic and exciting Kanturk started the 2nd half quicker again with 2 quick points in the opening 5 min but points by S Beston and J Sheehan kept Mitchelstown well in the game it was nip and tuck with chances going a begging for both sides then out of the blue Kanturk struck for their 2nd goal and tis was to prove the decisive score of the game they tagged two more and seemed to be heading for an easy victory but back came Mitchelstown points by D Price and J Sheehan had it down to 3 points entering last 5 min a brilliant move from the back ended with S Beston slicing through the Kanturk defence only for his shot to hit the post and then to be cleared that was to prove to be the last chance Kanturk kicked two points in injury time to finish the scoring, while losing a Championship game is not easy to take there was a lot of positives to take out of it for the management and the players also a big thank you to our supporters who travelled in big numbers and who gave great support to the team was well appreciated by the players and management Town will now play Adrigole in the next round in 4 to 5 weeks times.TEAM L Hanna O Burke K Wren B Coffey L Finn L O Flynn S O Sullivan S Walsh S Beston K Roche S Cahill L Molan D Price P Magee J Sheehan SUB P Molloy for L Molan 53min
