Mitchelstown u14 footballers emerged as winners in our league match played in unseasonably cold conditions in Fermoy last night. The cold weather was reflected in the slow start made by our lads, but eventually we began get on top around the middle of the park, and this dominance was converted into goals by Dillon Sheehan and James Connolly Murphy. Adam O’Grady, Leon Murphy, Daniel Harte, Cormac Keane Hyland and Ryan Donegan added fine scores ensuring the result at half time was 2.7 – 0-2. The scoreline slightly flattered the lads, with some of our passing and movement not being on a par with previous days, but this was also down to the physically strong and fast play from Fermoy, who had good possession but failed to convert their chances and were denied on numerous occasions by our keeper Jake Fox.
The second half continued on a similar theme but strong defending from Full Back line of Michael Roche, Emmet McMahon and Shane O’Brien denied Femoy. Cormac Keane Hyland continued to pick good passes from centre back and Adam Barry and Cathal Sheehan fought for every ball. Our forwards continued to convert chances with Colin McNamara fisting a gem of a goal for Mitchelstown. In the end Mitchelstown ran out comfortable winners to record their first win of the league after some near misses.
Well done to all and it was fantastic to have 24 lads togged out on the night. Thanks also to the parents for their continued support.
