Mitchelestown 1-13 Kanturk 2-15

A spirited performance  was not enough when we  met Kanturk tonight in the Cork IFC losing out by 5 points at the end of a very entertaining game in which both sides gave their all.

It took us 13mins to register our first score courtesy of Shane Cahill  & in those 13 mins we dropped 3 balls into their keepers hands & had a wide on top of those misses.

Kanturk had scored two in the same period so Shanes point brought some relief to Mitchelstown  & the team built on that score with  points coming quickly after that from Pa Magee & Dylan Reidy Price but then we messed up & Kanturk pounced to score the opening goal of the game along with a point straight after to put us under pressure but thankfully our boys dug in again & a point from Jimmy in the 18th min followed from a Sean Walsh one left the score at 1-3 to 5pts in favour of Kanturk after 19 mins. 

The game then took a turn when the Duhallow side went on a mini spree taking 4 points in as many minutes to widen the gap to 5 pts after 21 mins but Town led by Cahill rallied again & themselves added 1-4 without reply to lead the game before Kanturk  levelled  things up on the stroke of half time to leave the score 1-9 a piece at the short whistle.

Midfielder Sean Walsh opened the 2nd half scoring with a point 4mins in but Kanturk goaled shortly after  & 3 further points from them sandwiched between Jimmy Sheehan  & Dylan Reidy Price minors left town trailing 2-13 to 1-12 midway through the 2nd half.

Pa Molloy was introduced for Liam Molan before Jimmy scored towns last point of the game with 8 mins to go, Kanturk added 2 more points to run out winners in Churchtown which now leaves Town in Round 2b facing Adrgole who lost to Rockchapel this evening.
