Walsh’s Goals Sink Clyda

Mitchelstown  4 11

Clyda                  1 11

Mitchelstown advanced to the quarter final of the North Cork U 21 with a 9 point victory over Clyda while the score line suggest this was a comfortable victory this was far from the whole story Playing with a strong wind in the first half they  got the perfect start a great catch by the impressive Danny Keane from a kick out was passed to S O Sullivan who delivered a great pass to S Walshe who’s shot went straight to the back of the Clyda net further points by P Gorman and 2 by S Walshe had Mitchelstown well ahead after 15 min 1 04 to 01. Clyda started to get a foothold in midfield and kicked 3 good points in a row on the 17 18 and 20th min but this was wiped out on the 23rd min against the run of play when S Walsh got a long ball delivered by M Keane and dispatched it to the back of the Clyda net, points by M Keane and D Price and another S Walsh goal seemed to put town out of sight but appoint on the 29th min and a penalty awarded to Clyda on the stroke of half time which was converted to the back of the Mitchelstown net and left the score line 3 06 to 1 03 to say Clyda will be disappointed would be understating they missed very scorable free from placed balls even taking the wind into account Clyda started the 2nd half much better than the first 3 well kicked points in the first 5 min had them reducing the gap to 6 with a strong wind behind them, Town responded well to the challenge with D Farley C Roche D Roche defending well and keeping Clyda at bay points by S Walsh on the 40th 43rd had the gap out to 6 again but Clyde kept coming and points 0n the 50th 52nd had the game wide open again a well taken point by S Walsh and a converted penalty in the dying min by D Price finally put an end to the strong Clyde challenge. Mitchelstown will be happy with the win but will have to improve if they are going to advance when they play a very strong Charleville side

Glenville         2 11

Mitchelstown 0 10

Mitchelstown lost their unbeaten record in the league with a very disappointing performance against the home side Glenvilleve.Mitchelstown playing against a strong wind started slowly and did not get there first point till the 12th min but gradually  started to get a foothold in the game 2 further points by S Beston and a good score by B White had Town level after 20 min then a Glenville goal against the run of play but two  points just before half time by M Walsh and Jim Sheehan left the score 1 05 to 06 which was a good position for Mitchelstown to be in now playing with a very strong wind in the 2nd half, but the opposite happened Glenville came out as in the first half and dominated around the middle of the field and kicked 4 points without reply they were more physical and committed points by Beston Walsh could not stem the tide and a Glenville goal on the 48th min finished the game as a contest further points by Sheehan Price were just consolation scores for Town and Glenville ran out easy winners by 7 in the end all in all it was a very disappointing performance by the team, now with that bad performance out of the way they know what they have to do in the coming weeks to prepare for championship match against a very strong Kanturk team.

Mitchelstown were out for the 3rd straight day when they lined out against shanballymore in the Junior A Football league on last Monday night, the game was played in very difficult conditions with wind and rain throughout credit to both sets of players for a great effort and entertaining game. Mitchelstown playing with the wind in the first half started very brightly with points by J Sheehan and P Gorman further points A Donegan and Sheehan had Town well in control in the opening 15 min and they led 0 6 to 0 1 in the opening 15 min , but then shanballymore started to get on top and they finished the first half very strong kicking some lovely points against the swirling wind this left the minimum between the sides at the break 0 6 0 5 to Mitchelstown Shanballymore piled on the pressure straight from the resumption and were awarded a penalty on the 33rd min it was brilliantly saved by J Irwin in the Town goals and from that Mitchelstown went up the field and J Sheehan slotted over a great score from then on Town took control a lovely score by M Keating on the 43rd min followed by a well kicked point by A Donegan had well in control entering the last 10 min another good save by the Town keeper ended any hopes shanballymore had and further points by the evergreen P Donegan and man of the match J Sheehan ended the game. This was a very good win and keeps the team unbeaten with 5 points from 3 games there was great performances from young members of the squad who were playing their first senior game S Roche D Keane M Keating S Murphy were all very impressive with their performances
